New Surf Park Coming to Canada

British Columbia is getting a brand new surf park that has grabbed the attention of the entire Surf World with SURFER Magazine even saying, “it may become one of the most scenic wave pools on Earth.”

The small town of South Britannia (50km north of Vancouver) is set to break ground on a state of the art surf park in 2027, with hopes of a completed build by 2029. The new park is being built by a company called Wavegarden, which has worked on 12 surf parks globally. The B.C. park is said to produce up to 1,000 waves per hour and host 100 surfers in the water at a time. Waves will be ranging from beginner friendly to high performance barrels. The plan is also set to include hotel rooms, surf academy, restaurant and so much more.

Though the community of South Britannia isn’t exactly Land Locked, the entire mainland of B.C. lacks reliable ocean surfing due to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands blocking any real swell. All that to say, we welcome you West Coasters into the Land Locked community! The mountainous landscapes, towering forests and ocean backdrop of the park will help put the entire Canadian surfing community on the map.
